Wednesday, Midweek Church Service
Last Wednesday my dad wanted me to play tenor sax with him at Calvary Church for their midweek service. I said yeah even though I couldn't make the Monday rehearsal. Wednesday came and we ended up having an entire horn section and it was a pretty good sound. Afterwards I was talking to the alto sax player about her Yamaha Custom Z. It's a really nice alto sax and I still am playing my Yamaha intermediate from high school or middle school. So she let me play it a little after the service and it had the brightest sound I've heard out of an alto sax. That's saying something too because I've played a Selmer Mark VI before. Now, I would obviously rather have a Mark VI for many other reasons besides just the brightness of the tone but playing her sax definitely was a reminder that I should be upgrading my sax soon. So after I finished playing, she was telling me about a soprano sax she had bought a few years ago. She said she really wasn't happy with it so I told her that I might be interested in buying it off her. Now I know that it isn't the saxophone that is the problem because between you and me, she isn't the best player to begin with. So anyways, I told my dad about it and maybe he'll want to buy it for me sometime. He normally is happy about buying things music related.
Do u Udu?
So I came across a few really cool instruments the other day. One, being the udu, a clay instrument that is sometimes shaped like a pot. I really like the sound of it and I think I want to buy one. There are many different shapes of this instrument and I have found the utar udu to have the best sound. A man by the name of Frank Giorgini designed a lot of udus and then sold the designs to LP. In this video, a great udu player named Brian Melnick plays the utar udu:
If you don't already know, along with guitar and saxophone, I enjoy playing the djembe. As a hand percussionist, I think that I could play this instrument well. So, if I ever get this instrument I'll fill you in on how I'm doing and maybe even post a video.

Fresh Blog
So here it is, my first entry. This blog will be your window into my life. This site will include everything from what I'm into to what I'm doing with regards to music. Now first of all, I should probably introduce myself. So, my name is Rob, I'm a sophomore in college and I play guitar and saxophone mostly but I can get by playing some other instruments as well. A big part of this blog will probably be gigs that I'm playing lately. I play out a few times a month normally. Recently, I've played at weddings, restaurants, parties and retreats. I am most proficient at saxophone and have been playing for about 10 years. I am the lead alto sax in my university's jazz band and I have enjoyed being a part of it for about a year and a half.
This blog is for you if your a musician that wants to hear the successes and failures of a fellow player and read about the latest gigs that I've played. Also, you'll enjoy this blog if you want to hear the cool new things I've been into.
